Free Cab Rides for Adults Celebrating New Year’s Eve

As adults head out to celebrate New Year's Eve, they can "Make a Plan to Make it Home" by taking advantage of a free program that can help keep our streets safe. G & M Distributors, Shawn Mason State Farm Insurance, United American Cab, WGIL, FM95, 92.7 The LASER, and 105.3 KFM are sponsoring a community-based initiative that helps prevent drunk driving by providing safe cab rides home to adults who may have had too much to drink.

On December 31, from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., area bartenders and servers at participating bars and restaurants have a phone number they may use to request a free cab ride in Galesburg (within Galesburg city limits) and in Monmouth (within Monmouth city limits) for adults who want to get home safely at the end of the evening. By offering complimentary rides home, potential drunk drivers are kept off the road.

"We want all adults who choose to drink, regardless of the occasion, to act responsibly," said Adam Vitale, President of G & M Distributors. "That means if you include alcohol in your celebrations, please plan ahead and arrange to use alternate transportation or a designated driver to get home safely."

Thanks in part to programs and increased law enforcement, Anheuser-Busch, and its wholesalers are making progress in the fight against drunk driving. The latest government data shows that drunk-driving fatalities have decreased 51 percent since 1982.*
