Independence Day - Make a Plan to Make it Home

Before you kick off Independence Day festivities with friends, family and fireworks, when alcohol is involved, do whatever it takes to get home safely. Call a friend, arrange for a cab or designate a driver. As a DD, you'll join the more than 140 million American adults who have been or have used a designated driver. Along with having a designated driver or skipper, these tips can help keep your celebrations safe:

• Buckle up. Make sure everyone wears a seat belt or a life jacket.
• Don't speed. Make sure there's plenty of time to reach your destination.
• Drink responsibly. Adults who choose to drink should make responsible choices about when, where and how much.
